Woman killed after rock flies through her windshield on High Desert freeway

The California Highway Patrol asked for help tracking down the person who threw a rock at a passing car and killed the woman behind the wheel. 

Officers said the woman was driving with a passenger just after midnight on Oct. 8 along State Route 138, east of SR-18. When police arrived, the passenger told them someone had thrown a rock through the windshield which struck the woman. 

She was dead when paramedics arrived. Officers did not find a suspect in the surrounding area. 

Investigators said this is the second time in two nights someone has allegedly thrown a rock through a driver's windshield in the area. 

The similar occurrences caused the agency to ramp up its investigation and ask the community for any tips.
