Woman Goes On Trial Monday For Allegedly Murdering Her 96-Year-Old Mother

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com)   —  Trial is set to start Monday for a Rossmoor woman accused of murdering her 96-year-old mother.

Authorities said Christine Marie Reynolds, 72, is charged with one felony count of murder with a sentence enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm and causing death.

If convicted, Reynolds faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life.

Opening statements are expected to begin Monday, Nov. 9 around 9:15 a.m. in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

Reynolds is accused of shooting her mother -- Gretchen DeStefano -- in the head around 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2014.

The DA said another resident of the home called the Orange County Sheriff's Department immediately after the shooting. The OCSD investigated and arrested Reynolds.
