Woman, Girl Killed In Carson Shooting
CARSON (CBSLA) — A 19-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl have died at a hospital after being shot outside of a home in Carson.
The shooting was reported just before 9 p.m. Sunday at the home in the 2300 block of Alvo Avenue.
According to police, the home had been the site on an ongoing vigil for a 26-year-old man, one of the residents, who died last Wednesday. The woman and the girl were in a car outside of the home when they were shot.
The woman, identified as Erin Lavender, was a softball player at Compton College.
"She was pretty amazing," Joe Magno, Lavender's coach, said. "She was the first on the field, and the last to leave. Always worked hard."
Killed alongside Lavender was Dalelaja, a local high school student.
"She was about to go to college, graduating...she did hair," Chiquita Babin, a relative of Hearn, said. "She just had so much going for herself. It's just so sad that her life was taken so early."
According to police, a car reportedly drove into the area just before the shooting, but it was not immediately clear if the shooting was a drive-by, or if any words were exchanged.
The family of the victims went to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department looking for answers, but homicide detectives said they did not have any suspect information.
