Woman Found Dead In Griffith Park; Homicide Investigation Launched

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A woman's body was found Tuesday in Griffith Park, prompting a homicide investigation and putting residents on edge.

Park rangers found the woman about 11 a.m. along Red Oak Drive, according to Los Angeles police Officer Jeff Lee.

An aerial view from Sky9 around 6 p.m. showed authorities blocking off the area near a trail as investigators continued to work at the scene.

The woman, believed to about 30 to 40 years old, was wrapped in a blanket or sleeping bag, Lee said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation showed foul play may have been involved.

Coroner's investigators summoned to the location determined the death was suspicious and a homicide investigation was launched, Lee said.

The discovery has rattled some neighbors.

"It doesn't quite make sense – there's some things that ring odd about this story. She's in a sleeping bag, but I don't know the full story," Reid Oldenburg said. "It's hard to imagine that anything like that would happen in this area, especially in like an urban park."

Police have not released information on a suspect or person of interest.
