Woman Fatally Shot In Commerce

COMMERCE (CBSLA) - A woman in her thirties was shot to death Saturday in an unincorporated area near Commerce early Saturday morning.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded at 1:24 a.m. to a convenience store and gas station at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Telegraph Road north of the 5 Freeway regarding a call of a gunshot victim.

Upon arriving, they discovered an unresponsive woman in the store who was shot.

Investigators learned the victim was driving a midsize SUV and had stopped for a red light at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Garfield Avenue when an unknown person fired several rounds into the SUV.

She was able to drive a short distance to the convenience store where she sought help.

Authorities disclosed Sunday that the woman also had a passenger with her in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, who told investigators that all she remembered seeing prior to the shots being fired was a shadow moving up to the car through the vehicle's tinted windows.

Paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman has not yet been identified, pending the investigation and notification of next of kin.

The suspect is described only as a male with short hair. It is unknown if this shooting is gang-related. Authorities have yet to recover the murder weapon.

Witnesses at the scene denied CBS reporters request for interview.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
