Woman Sustains Critical Burns In El Monte Chemical Attack

EL MONTE (CBSLA) – A woman is in critical condition after a chemical was poured onto her face and body in El Monte early Saturday morning.

At around 1 a.m., El Monte police responded to a 911 call regarding a woman screaming in the 3600 block of Durfee Avenue. They arrived to find the victim laying in the driveway which severe burns from a chemical attack.

She was rushed to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center in critical condition. Her name was not released.

El Monte police later confirmed that a suspect had poured an "unknown type of caustic chemical" onto the woman, and then fled in an unknown car.

It's unclear if police have identified any suspects or a motive in the attack. An L.A. County Sheriff's Department Special Enforcement Bureau hazmat team is assisting police in the investigation.
