Woman Arrested, Officer Injured After Wild Chase Ends In Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A woman was arrested early Thursday after leading police officers on a wild chase in a stolen car, then backing it up into a patrol car and injuring an officer.

The chase ended at Haskell Avenue and Vanowen Street in Van Nuys, where the woman sat in her car and lit up a cigarette, then climbed out of the sunroof to continue enjoying her cigarette.

Officers eventually yanked the woman out of the car and took her into custody.

It all started when an officer tried to stop the car at about 2:15 a.m. in the area of Sherman Way and Haskell because it came back as stolen.

The wild chase lasted about a half hour, but went up on sidewalks and on the wrong side of the street at times. At one point, she backed up into an LAPD patrol car and pinned an officer, who was injured.

The officer was taken to a hospital by his partner. Police did not release what injuries he sustained or what condition he is in.
