With Eye On Politics, Pacquiao Will Retire After April 9th Bout

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Manny Pacquiao has announced that he will retire from boxing after his April 9th fight, promotor Bob Arum announced.

"It's a real job and if Manny is serious about wanting to be president, these six years in the senate would be like an audition and for him to show his people that he really is a serious politician," Arum said.

Pacquiao is the only fighter in history to win world titles in eight different weight classes.

He has emphasized his desire to pursue a career in Philipino politics in prior years, and currently serves as a Congressman for the Sarangani province.

However, Pacquiao has aspirations to run for one of the 24 national senate seats in the Philippines.

The 36-year old has a career record of 57-6-2 with 38 knockouts.

No opponent has been named for Pacquiao's final fight, but Timothy Bradley Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez are among the possible candidates.

Two of the senate seats in the Philippines are up for election in May, giving Pacquiao about a month to campaign once he retires.
