Wisconsin Gov. Walker To Headline GOP Convention In Anaheim

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com/AP) — The California Republican Party says Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will headline its fall convention in Anaheim.

Party Chairman Jim Brulte announced Thursday that Walker, one of 17 candidates seeking the GOP presidential nomination, will be the featured speaker Sept. 19.

The announcement comes as Walker is addressing another group in California, a meeting in San Diego of the conservative American Legislative Exchange Council.

The group promotes model legislation for state lawmakers on a wide range of business-friendly issues, including "right-to-work" measures to prohibit companies and unions from requiring employees to be union members.

Walker is the highest profile lawmaker to headline the GOP convention since then-Texas Gov. Rick Perry made an appearance during the 2013 convention.

California's June 2016 presidential primary could play a role in winnowing the GOP's candidate pool. The state is also a huge source of fundraising for candidates from both parties.
