Car Theft Suspect Arrested In Koreatown After Shooting At Officers During Chase
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A car theft suspect was captured in Koreatown after allegedly opening firing on Los Angeles police officers during a pursuit Sunday night. No officers were hurt.
The incident started at around 8:30 p.m. on the 101 Freeway when officers tried to pull over a car which had been reported stolen.
The male driver refused to stop and a chase ensued, during which the suspect fired several shots. The gunfire struck a patrol car, but did not wound any officers, police said.
The suspect eventually abandoned the car at Wilshire Boulevard and South Berendo Street in the Koreatown neighborhood and ran.
Police set up a perimeter and shut down several streets, including an area bordered by Wilshire to the north, 7th Street to the south, Catalina Street to the west and Vermont Avenue to the east.
Residents were asked to shelter in place.
A little before 1 a.m., the suspect was tracked down and arrested. His name and the charges he faces were not immediately released.
