Woman In Custody After Reported Shootout With Police, Hours-Long Standoff At MacArthur Park

WESTLAKE DISTRICT (CBSLA) — A woman reportedly involved in a shootout with police was taken into custody Friday after a nearly three hour standoff.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers arrived at the scene at about 2:56 p.m. to find the woman near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street in the Westlake District.

At some point, the officers and the woman reportedly engaged in a shootout, though it did not immediately appear that anyone was injured in that shooting.

The woman then got into MacArthur Park Lake where she swam to an island and was seen walking back and forth and harassing the ducks and birds as officers surrounded the lake.

After more than three hours, officers were able to take the woman into custody without incident as she seemingly attempted to casually leave the park.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.
