Weapons, Materials For Explosives Found At Laguna Niguel Home

LAGUNA NIGUEL (CBSLA.com) — Orange County sheriff's investigators checking into a report of domestic violence found 40 weapons, most of them rifles, grenades and "precursors to explosives," at a Laguna Niguel home Tuesday.

Deputies went to the home at 25 Fairlane Road about 12:40 a.m. to handle a domestic-violence report, Orange County sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock said.

Juan Jesus Martinez, 56, was booked on suspicion of domestic violence and possession of substances with intent to create a destructive/explosive device, sheriff's officials said.

While they were at the home, investigators found 30 to 40 rifles, grenades and military ordnance devices, which were later determined to be inert, Hallock said. The department's Hazardous Device Squad was called out to evaluate and collect the weapons.

Deputies also found substances and chemicals, which Hallock described as "precursors to explosives."

Martinez is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
