VIDEO: Kirk Gibson's Famous 1988 Home Run Called By Don Drysdale

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — On the anniversary of Kirk Gibson's famous home run to give the Dodgers a game 1 victory in the 1988 World Series, we listen to the seldom heard broadcast done by the late Don Drysdale.

Drysdale began his broadcasting career in 1969 after a shoulder injury forced him to retire from playing the game.

He would go on announcing games for the Expos, Rangers, Angels, White Sox and eventually the Dodgers all the way until his death in 1993.

Spending his entire career with the Dodgers, Drysdale collected 209 wins over his 14-year career, pitching 3420 innings and striking out 2486 batters.

He won three world series as a member of the Dodgers, in 1959, 1963, and 1965.

Drysdale won the 1962 Cy Young Award and was later elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.

The Dodgers host the Mets on Thursday in Game 5 of the National League Division Series, with the winner advancing to the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:07 p.m. and the game will be televised on TBS.
