Victim Identified In Deadly Car Wash Shooting

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Officials released the name of the 25-year-old man killed Saturday at a North Hollywood car wash.

Witnesses told CBS2/KCAL9's Brittney Hopper that the suspect walked into the car wash in the 6400 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard "wanting to fight someone."

At one point, she said, the suspect put his gun on the counter.

Police said the suspect and the victim, Brian Pleytez of Van Nuys, got into a brief argument around 1:45 p.m. before he shot Pleytez in the head and several more times in the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office and the LAPD.

Witnesses say the suspect drove away in a black Toyota Camry. Officers managed to stop the suspect a few blocks away and he was arrested on suspicion of murder, Lopez said. His name has not been released.

Police recovered the gun at the car wash.

LAPD says the shooting was gang-related but wouldn't clarify whether the suspect or the victim belonged to a gang.
