Vehicle Plows Into Fairfax District Building
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a vehicle crashed into a two-story community center in Los Angeles' Fairfax District on Sunday morning.
The collision involving a brand-new Honda Compact happened just after 7:20 a.m. in the 300 block of North La Brea Avenue.
A witness told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz that the driver of the Honda was traveling south on La Brea Avenue and appeared to try to get past a changing signal prior to the crash.
Katherine Main, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said at least two people were transported to an area hospital, one of which was said to be in grave condition.
Main said the second victim was in fair condition.
The witness also told Mertz that one of the victims was a passenger seated in the backseat of the Honda. There were three others inside the vehicle but they were uninjured.
Footage from the scene showed shattered glass and a large dent on the driver's side of the vehicle, which was located on the sidewalk.
It's unclear whether anyone was arrested in connection with the crash.
No further information was immediately available.
