Valley Seniors Treated To Student Ballroom Dance Recital For Valentine's Day

WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Retired seniors in one San Fernando Valley neighborhood were treated Friday to an early Valentine's Day gift.

About 120 fifth-graders from a Woodland Hills charter school gave a ballroom dance performance for approximately 75 senior living residents from a half-dozen local retirement homes.

Led by dance teacher Laurie Rodstein, students from the Serrania Charter for Enriched Studies elementary school performed six classic ballroom dances: the Foxtrot, Tango, Merengue, Rumba, Swing and Waltz.

The students also personally delivered home-made Valentines in what officials described as a Valentine's Day "gift to the community".

The performance comes just a few months after a group of fifth-grade students from Serrania won the gold medal level in a citywide Dancing Classrooms Los Angeles competition, according to school officials.
