UFC Fighter Conor McGregor Announces Retirement Via Twitter

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) - UFC star Conor McGregor turned the sporting world upside down Tuesday after tweeting he has "decided to retire young."

McGregor, who is 27, had been scheduled to rematch Nate Diaz at UFC 200 on July 9 after being upset by the challenger back at UFC 196.

Last week, McGregor reacted to former fighter Joao Carvalho's passing after posting a statement on his Facebook page that said, "To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking."

McGregor was sitting ring-side at Carvalho's fight where he sustained the injuries leading to his death.

Diaz took to Twitter later in the day to let the MMA world know exactly how he feels about the retirement announcement.
