UCLA police investigating "scooter theft suspect" for string of on-campus incidents

CBS News Los Angeles

UCLA campus police are investigating an alleged "scooter theft suspect" who they believe may be connected to a string of other similar incidents.

"Officers arrested the suspect near campus and recovered two scooters and brass knuckles," said a post on X from the UCLA Police Department. "The suspect had an active warrant for sexual battery against a minor."

They also believe that the suspect, who remains unidentified, might be linked to a number of other scooter thefts that have happened on campus in recent weeks.

"An officer saw suspect riding two scooters near campus and attempted to make a stop to investigate a suspected stolen vehicle," the post said.

Though the suspect tried to flee, they were apprehended a short time later, detectives noted.

"Detectives are investigating whether this suspect is linked to three other scooter thefts on campus," the statement said.

Anyone who may know more is asked to contact UCLA PD at (310) 825-1491.
