The shooting occurred at about 9:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Flint Avenue.

Los Angeles police said that the two were in the driveway of a home when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire on them.

Mary Vigil, who resides at the home, told CBSLA Friday that the victims were her brother, who is in his 60s, and his nephew, who is in his 30s. They had all just returned from a funeral for the nephew's mother.

"I thought it was fireworks at first, and it was so close," Vigil said.

Both men were rushed to local hospitals. Vigil said her nephew was struck in the stomach, but is expected to recover. Her brother will require surgery on his knee, but is also expected to survive.

The LAPD initially reported that one of the victims was a 6-year-old boy. However, a police spokesperson told CBSLA Friday that no child was shot, and the age was reported in error.

Vigil's security camera captured footage of the small gray sedan the suspect or suspects were driving. There was no word on a motive or whether the shooting was gang-related. There was no description of the gunman.

Vigil said gang activity and shootings have become all too common in her neighborhood.

"That's all you hear, is sirens and helicopters just flying around, it's like a war zone, little Afghanistan here," Vigil said.
