Tujunga Residents Ask For Stop Sign Hoping To Prevent Another Deadly Accident On Busy Road

TUJUNGA (CBSLA.com) – Residents who live on a busy stretch of road in Tujunga are asking for a stop light or stop sign on Tujunga Canyon Boulevard in the hopes they can stop or at least cut down on deadly accidents.

Aileen Babadjanians told CBS2's Kristine Lazar she was in her bed last night, when she and her husband were startled awake by the sound of a violent car crash.

"And we ran out as we usually do -- it happens so often," said Babadjanians.

The couple and their two young children have only lived off of Tujunga Canyon Boulevard for a little more than a year, but they say they've grown accustomed to car accidents on this same stretch of road.

"Cars come flying down that canyon, especially at night at least once or twice a month," Babadjanians said. "We hear the braking sound and hold our breath hoping that they don't hit our fence."

Last night, a 17-year-old girl died in an accident on this same stretch of road. She and three others were in a Ford Explorer when it lost control, and flipped slamming into a wall. All four teens were ejected onto the street from the impact.

The three survivors were taken to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries.

"It's been like that ever since we moved here," said Tim McElligott.

He has lived here for 20 years and says the neighborhood has asked for a stop sign or a stop light to slow traffic.

"It's tragic," says McElligott, "My son just turned 18 and we worry about him all the time on the road."
