Man's Truck Stolen With His Dad's Ashes Inside
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — When someone stole Brett Thurston's truck in front of his Long Beach home two weeks ago he though his roommates were playing a joke on him.
But it was no joke. The silver 2006 Chevy Silverado his dad left him before he died last year was gone and so were his dad's ashes and the ashes of his dad's chocolate lab, Beau.
"When I realized his ashes were in there, that's when I really got upset," Thurston said. "I don't care about the truck or anything else in it. I would just like to have his ashes back and the dogs ashes."
Thurston's dad, Robert Thurston once a captain with the Long Beach Fire Department had one dying wish.
"He wanted us to hike up as a family to Magnesia Falls beyond Rancho Mirage. He said that's where he wanted his ashes spread," Thurston said.
Thurston and his brother planned on spreading their dad's ashes this fall. He left them in his truck overnight to drop them off at his brother's house. That was June 6. The truck and the ashes haven't been seen since.
"If anybody knows anything. No questions asked. Just turn it into a fire station. I'd really appreciate it," Thurston said.
