Transient Gets 2 Years In Prison For Role In Fatal Hollywood Boulevard Stabbing
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A transient was sentenced Monday to two years in prison for being an accessory in the fatal stabbing of a woman on Hollywood Boulevard last June.
Brian Joseph Widdows, 35, pleaded no contest to two counts of being an accessory after the fact in the attack June 18, 2013, on Christine Calderon outside the Hollywood & Highland Center.
The LAPD Olympic Homicide detectives' investigation revealed that Calderon was with a male friend walking in the area when they saw three men who were holding signs and panhandling.
Police said a dispute ensued after Calderon and her friend reportedly took photos of the men with their cell phones and refused to give the men money, resulting in Calderon being stabbed in the torso.
Prosecutors later accused Jason Joel Wolstone, 34, of pushing the victim and put her in a headlock before she was fatally stabbed, they say, by Dustin James Kinnear, 27.
Wolstone pleaded no contest to assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and was sentenced in April to two years in prison.
Kinnear is charged with murder, along with a knife-use allegation and is scheduled to appear in court July 14 for a pretrial hearing.
