Crews Extinguish Third-Alarm Fire In Huntington Park Commercial Building

HUNTINGTON PARK (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters contained a third-alarm blaze Wednesday that erupted inside a commercial building in Huntington Park.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., crews were sent to the 2500 block of East 57th Street for report of a fire burning inside a warehouse building, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located flames burning through the roof of a dollar store.

At one point, part of the roof collapsed as flames spread to two other businesses; one of which that sells electronics.

According to witnesses, flames were seen burning as high as 30 feet. Residents reported hearing power lines popping and glass breaking in the area.

More than 100 firefighters assisted at the scene. Shortly before 7 a.m., crews extinguished the blaze.

Due to the amount of thick smoke, authorities tested firefighters to make sure harmful levels of carbon monoxide were not present in their bodies.

No injuries were reported.

CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported a warehouse fire located around the block was deemed suspicious in nature earlier this month.

Firefighters are investigating whether the fires may be related. At this time, authorities say this morning's blaze is being considered a stand alone incident.

Three brothers who have owned the building for 30 years told Finnstrom they were at there on Tuesday doing maintenance.

The family explained the building was divided into three sections, which has recently been rented out to a dollar store.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
