How Did A Lion End Up Roaming The Streets Of Norwalk?
NORWALK (CBSLA.com) — What appears to be a lion is roaming around Norwalk, according to officials.
Home surveillance of a large cat believed to be a mountain lion has residents concerned.
Jeff Hobbs, the city's public information officer, told CBS2 and KCAL9 that the video appears to be authentic and was taken by a resident's security cameras about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Department of Fish & Game officials said they also believe it's a mountain lion but can't explain why a lion is so far from a wilderness area.
The video was shot in the 11000 block of Tina Street, said Hobbs.
The homeowner believed the cat to also be a mountain lion but Hobbs said the cat has a mane, more consistent with the type of lion seen at a circus or zoo.
The slow-moving, possibly elderly animal appears to be non-aggressive but residents are being warned to treat any encounter as potentially dangerous.
A sighting of any kind of large cat would be unusual in the Norwalk area, authorities said.
