Suspected Bank Robber Allegedly Inspired By 'Grand Theft Auto,' Authorities Say

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old man suspected of robbing a bank in Anaheim was inspired by the "Grand Theft Auto" video game, according to authorities.

Ian Jade Stone was arrested Saturday in San Luis Obispo based on an informant's tip. He's being held on $50,000 bail.

The suspect is accused of robbing a U.S. Bank branch on Friday at 5701 E. Orangethorpe Ave.

FBI Special Agent Chris Gicking said the suspect, who confessed to the incident, told a bank teller he had a bomb strapped to him and "the people forcing him to do this would detonate it" if he didn't get any money.

The suspect told investigators his plan was derived from a version of "Grand Theft Auto."

Stone "gave most of the money away," Gicking said.
