2 Charged In Thefts Of $460,000 From Chase Bank ATMs
RIVERSIDE (AP) — Federal prosecutors say two Inland Empire men stole more than $460,000 breaking into Chase Bank ATMs.
James Costilow, 38, and David Silva, 25, were charged in U.S. District Court in Riverside on Friday with attempted bank theft in a failed Murrieta heist.
An affidavit filed with the charge says the men were involved in 15 similar heist attempts at Chase ATMs in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in the past six months. Several thefts were successful.
Prosecutors say the men used power tools to break the machines and then used a truck or van to pull off the ATM door to get cash.
The Murrieta theft failed when the bumper came off the van.
Both men fled the scene separately and were caught after being chased by police.
