Suspect Sought In Deadly San Bernardino Hit-And-Run

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) - Police are on the hunt for a suspected hit-and-run driver that left 63-year-old Darlena Santiago dead in the street last month

A family member gave CBS2/KCAL9's Crystal Cruz a  photo of Santiago from her younger days.

She was killed in October on Waterman at Norman, the street she lived on. Police just released pictures of the suspect's grey Toyota truck.

"You can't imagine how much pain this has caused," said Santiago's boyfriend, Manuel. "You know, it could be an accident but better to turn yourself in before making it worse."

Investigators say the truck has front end damage and had a ladder in the back, but the driver was going so fast that it probably fell off. They hope someone picked it up and will call them.

Santiago walked everywhere. Neighbors told Cruz in the neighborhood where she walked was very dangerous because there aren't any sidewalks.

"My nephew got hit on this street from a speeding car," said neighbor Eileen Mesa.

Mesa describes Santiago as a sweet lady who she spoke to just minutes before the crash.

"He needs to be caught. He need to turn his self in for justice," said Mesa.
