Sketch Released Of Hammer-Wielding Attacker Wanted In East LA

EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives released a composite sketch Thursday of a man wanted for assaulting  two people with a hammer.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the two assaults happened on separate occasions in East Los Angeles.

On March 25, the suspect assaulted a 63-year-old Hispanic man in the 1400 block of South Bonnie Beach Place.

"The suspect walked up to the elderly male and without any warning or provocation struck him with a hammer type weapon," Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said. "When the victim fell to the ground, the suspect kicked the victim. The suspect then fled southbound on Bonnie Beach Place and was out of view."

Later that evening, the suspect assaulted a 23-year-old Hispanic woman outside of a residence located in the 4400 block of Triggs Street.

"The suspect struck the victim with a hammer-like weapon several times about the head," Navarro-Suarez explained. "The woman immediately fell to the ground and fell unconscious. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction."

Both of the victims were listed in serious condition.

Detectives described the suspect as a Hispanic man who is believed to be between the ages of 40 and 50 years old. He has a goatee, stands around six feet tall and weighs no more than 240 pounds.

The suspect was last seen wearing a hat, sunglasses, a blue windbreaker, brown cargo shorts and white shoes.

He is believed to have fled from the scene in a dark colored 1990s Toyota Tacoma extended cab.

Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of this suspect has been urged to contact the East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station at (323) 264-4151.
