Suspect Shot After Reportedly Pointing Gun At Officers In South LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A known gang member was shot in South Los Angeles after police say he pointed a gun at officers.

The incident took place around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday on Broadway and 59th streets.

Officers were conducting a crime suppression when they made contact with the suspect who fled southbound on Broadway, Sgt. Frank Preciado said.

Officials were about to set up a perimeter when they saw the man was on a nearby roof bouncing between buildings.

"At a certain point he produces a handgun and points it at officers. An officer-involved shooting occurred at that point," Preciado said. "They did not know what the condition of the suspect was until they set up a perimeter, made an announcement for the suspect to come out, at which point he did."

The suspect, described as an Hispanic man in his mid 20s, was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He remained in critical but stable condition.

A weapon was located at the scene.
