Suspect Arrested After Ambulance Chase

HESPERIA (CBSLA) — A patient who broke free from his constraints carjacked an ambulance Sunday afternoon and led police on a chase.

It all started in Lake Elsinore and headed north on Interstate 15 until it finally came to an end in Hesperia.

He jumped out of the ambulance and ran into the brush, where CHP officers were able to arrest him.

He overpowered the two paramedics who were inside the ambulance. When they got out, he grabbed the keys and took off.

The ambulance belongs to Mission Ambulance out of Corona.

They weren't commenting but earlier told the San Bernardino Sun the man had been picked up at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar and scuffled with the paramedics, one of whom suffered a cut to her hand.

The suspect has not been identified and it hasn't been determined why he was seeking medical attention in the first place.
