'Sugar' Shane Mosley's Ex-Wife Sues Over Alleged Bigamy Claims
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — "Sugar" Shane Mosley's ex-wife is suing the boxer, alleging that he falsely implied in media interviews that she was a bigamist.
Jin Mosley filed the defamation suit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
The couple married in November 2002 and had three children before judgment ending their marriage was entered in June 2011, according to the lawsuit. Jin Mosley was previously married from December 1995 until September 2002 to Sanjay Dwivedi, the complaint said.
Less than a year ago, Shane Mosley told a reporter outside the downtown County Courthouse, "Man, my so-called ex-wife was married while I was married," the suit states.
Jin Mosley alleges her ex-husband made a similar allegation in an interview with FightHype.com within the last year, in which he said, "So we got married in 2002 and she got married in 1995, and was still married to him when we got married."
Asked by the interviewer whether his information about the bigamy allegation was accurate, Shane Mosley replied, "It's concrete, it's pretty concrete," according to the lawsuit, which notes that the former couple were each under a mutual order at the time to avoid disparaging each other.
As a result of the false accusations of bigamy, Jin Mosley "has become upset, anxious and distressed; she has felt verbally and emotionally abused; she has suffered anguish, concern and worry," the suit states.
Shane Mosley either knew the statements were false or should have known they were untrue, according to the complaint.
