Student, 12, Arrested For Stabbing Peer With Knife At Stevenson Ranch School

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A 12-year-old boy was arrested for stabbing another student with a knife at an elementary school in Stevenson Ranch Friday morning, authorities said.

The stabbing occurred before 8  a.m. at Pico Canyon Elementary School in the 25000 block of Pico Canyon Road. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told CBS2 one boy stabbed another 12-year-old boy with a knife inside a classroom. The teacher and other students were able to separate the two, officials said.

The victim suffered minor injuries. Deputies responded to the school and arrested the suspect, who was not identified because he is a juvenile.

The circumstances leading up to the stabbing were not confirmed. The suspect allegedly had several kitchen knives in his backpack.

CBS2's Amy Johnson spoke to one of the suspect's classmates who helped pull him off the victim.

The victim had several stab wounds that are not considered life-threatening.

The suspect was being interviewed by detectives. It's unclear if the school was placed into lockdown during the incident, the sheriff's department said.

Extra counselors were brought to campus following the stabbing. Several parents told CBS2 the school also sent out notices regarding the incident. Friday had already been scheduled as an early-release day.

On Saturday and Only On 2, CBS2's Greg Mills spoke with the father of the victim.

Chris Loprete said he and his wife got a call Friday morning alerting them to come to the school.

"We got there and saw fire engines, ambulances, three cops care and we just panicked," said Loprete.

He said his son had had some type of fight with the suspect the day before. His son suffered about a dozen stab wounds, most of them superficial. His son was treated at a hospital and released.

"He's a little sore. We're just grateful," said Loprete, "it could have been a lot worse."

Loprete said the suspect yelled out "This is a lone wolf terrorist attack" and something about murdering the victim.

"It's unfortunately the world we live in now," Loprete said.

The father was assured the suspect will not be returning to the school.
