Firefighters Knock Down 2 Separate Strip Mall Fires In LA
MONTECITO HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Crews Wednesday extinguished two separate strip mall fires burning in Los Angeles County.
The first fire broke out shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 8100 block of Remmet Ave, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Upon their arrival, firefighters located flames burning through the roof of the one-story building.
Two hours later, crews responded to report of a fire burning at a strip mall located in the 5900 block of North Monterey Road in Montecito Heights.
Firefighters went into defensive mode upon their arrival after hearing report of nearby power poles being involved in the fire.
A portion of the roof collapsed and flames subsequently destroyed a laundromat, a dry cleaning business and a sushi restaurant.
Firefighters were able to prevent flames from spreading to a hair salon and a donut shop.
CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported officials have red-tagged the entire building.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of both fires remain under investigation.
