HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A section of the ocean in Orange County has been closed after a reported sighting of a possibly six-foot shark Sunday.

Lifeguards closed access to the water along the stretch of Bolsa Chica State Beach after a surfer reported that he was knocked off his board by the shark, according to KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

The incident unfolded about 8:40 a.m. about 100 yards offshore, State Lifeguard Chief Jeff David said.

The surfer was uninjured.

Preliminary reports indicate that the shark might have been around 6-feet in length, but it's not clear yet what type of shark.

Lifeguards have closed access to the water within a one-mile radius of the incident for 24 hours as a precaution.
