Stolen vehicle suspect barricaded inside car after brief pursuit in San Pedro

Barricaded suspect surrenders to police after hours-long standoff

A brief pursuit with a stolen vehicle suspect came to a sudden end in San Pedro when the driver stopped the car and barricaded inside, prompting an hours-long standoff with police.

The chase ended at around 2:50 p.m. but ended near Gaffey Street and Sepulveda Boulevard, when the suspect pulled behind a business' parking lot that turned into a dead end.

The driver could be seen sitting inside of the car, a Honda sedan, while surrounded by dozens of Los Angeles Police Department units with SkyCal overhead.

Officers utilized less-than lethal ammunition to try to get the suspect out of the car, shooting multiple bean bags through a rear window of the car.

A SWAT team was called to the scene to assist.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the suspect surrendered after officers deployed a gas canister into the back of the car.

He was arrested without further incident.
