Stolen BMW Totaled In Brief Attempt To Flee Police
TARZANA (CBSLA.com) — A stolen BMW was totaled during a pursuit, in which a teenager was attempting to flee police.
The crash occurred in the 3700 block of Reseda Blvd., near the Encino Reservoir, resulting in a street closure.
Authorities were investigating the crash into the evening hours.
Police told CBS2 they approached a cul de sac , where the 16-year-old male was performing "donuts", or spinning the vehicle out intentionally.
Upon seeing the police, the teen took off, at which point the pursuit ensued.
Police reportedly were initially unaware that the BMW was reported stolen out of Topanga on August 11.
"When the officers looks at the BMW, the driver of the BMW then sped off northbound, back this direction on Reseda Boulevard," LAPD Detective Scott Walton said. "The black and white patrol unit executed a U-turn and activated their lights, but before they could broadcast, or even get their siren on, they came around the corner here and observed the aftermath of this collision."
The remains of the vehicle were loaded onto a truck shortly after 10 p.m.
Investigators were not sure of the teen's possible connection to the vehicle having been stolen.
The teen is in Northridge Hospital, and is reported to be in critical, but stable, condition.
