One dead, one injured after stabbing and shooting on LA Metro at Crenshaw Station

One man is dead and another man is injured after a fight broke out at a Metro Crenshaw Station in Hawthorne Tuesday night.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the stabbing happened around 7:23 p.m. at the station located on Crenshaw Boulevard along the I-105 Freeway after an altercation broke out between two men.

During the investigation, authorities learned that as the suspect started stabbing the man, he took out a handgun and shot the suspect in the upper torso.

When deputies arrived to the scene they found the victim, a man in his late 20s, with several stab wounds to his upper torso and he was taken to a local hospital where he later died. 

After the stabbing, the suspect got off the train and was arrested. Before being taken into custody he was treated at the hospital for his gunshot wounds.

Initially, the department said the stabbing victim sustained several gunshot wounds. They later rolled back that statement and clarified that the stabber was the one who was shot. 

The fatal attack prompted Metro to suspend train service between the Hawthorne/Lennox and Vermont/Athens stations, providing shuttle bus service for passengers instead.

The Metro's C Line is now up and running again Wednesday morning after many passengers experienced delays while authorities investigated the scene.
