The California Department of Transportation will close several lanes of the SR-118 Freeway in Simi Valley to begin a construction project.

From Monday at 9 p.m. to Tuesday at 6 a.m., the two lanes of the westbound portion of the highway will be closed from Kuehner Drive to Yosemite Street. Additionally, the westbound First Street on-ramp and off-ramp will be closed at that time. Finally, two westbound lanes from Tapo Canyon Road to First Street and the Yosemite Street on-ramp will be closed.

The freeway will be closed again during the same time period during the overnight hours between Tuesday and Wednesday. At that time, two lanes of the eastbound SR-118 will be closed from First Street to Kuehner Drive. The eastbound First Street on-ramp and the eastbound Yosemite Street on-ramp, as well as the off-ramp, will be closed also.

The closures are necessary for the state's Clean California beautification project. The endeavor, which cost $3 million, is part of Governor Gavin Newsom's $1.2 billion Clean California initiative which is a multi-year cleanup aimed at removing trash and creating jobs.
