Southern California Drivers Take Advantage Of Falling Gas Prices
CORONA (CBSLA.com) — Gas prices in California have fallen, leaving drivers like Lorenzo Daniels and Theresa Davenport saying "fill her up."
"It's very cheap, and I can fill this thing up with under $40," Davenport said.
A Costco location in Corona has some of the cheapest gas prices around. Another Inland Empire station is ringing up at $2.83 per gallon, a price that drivers haven't seen in a long time.
"I would like it either to remain like this or even go lower," Davenport said.
With the summer travel season over, AAA spokeswoman Marie Montgomery is also hoping prices continue to drop.
"It's a lower-demand time of year and, typically in the fall and into the winter months, we would see the cheapest prices of the year," she said.
But if there's a problem that stops production at any of the refineries statewide, experts say prices could go back up.
That's in part because California is already down refinery after last February's explosion at an ExxonMobil refinery in Torrance, which hasn't been repaired.
"That means that all the other refineries in Southern California have to make up the shortfall caused by the explosion," Montgomery said.
But drivers are keeping their fingers crossed, and some commuters are considering getting a smaller, more fuel-efficient car.
