Business Owners Killed In South LA Strip Mall Fire

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Two people believed to be the owners of a store were killed in a fire Tuesday that erupted at a strip mall in South Los Angeles.

According to firefighters, the blaze was reported just before 6 a.m. in the 4700 block of S. Broadway Street.

Upon their arrival, firefighters struggled to break through the chained entrance, which was blocked by scissor doors and a rolling gate that was locked.

Paramedics transported a man and a woman to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Their identities were being withheld pending family notification.

No other injuries were reported.

Three neighboring businesses sustained damage as a result of the blaze.

Firefighters said there were no working smoke alarms within the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
