L.A. County sheriff's investigators confirm a Mustang driven from a Carson tow yard early Wednesday morning is the same vehicle in which two men were later found shot in South L.A.

Police are investigating after two men were found shot in a crashed Mustang at 73rd Street and Avalon Blvd., just south of Florence Avenue, in South Los Angeles at 5:36 a.m. Wednesday.

Los Angeles police officers found two people with gunshot wounds in a crashed Ford Mustang on 73rd. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was hospitalized in unknown condition. That passenger is expected to survive, officials said.

A large police perimeter was set up and the intersection was closed during the investigation.

Gunfire was exchanged at a tow-yard in Carson earlier Wednesday morning when a white Mustang was driven away from the location. Investigators say the two incidents are related.

A tow-truck driver reportedly shot at a Mustang several times at the tow yard located near Victoria Street and Wilmington Avenue on the Carson/Compton border, according to sheriff's investigators. It was unclear if the vehicle was stolen from the lot.

The 73rd Street crash was reported about 16 minutes later.

L.A. County sheriff's investigators now confirm that the Carson suspect vehicle is the same as the one at the South L.A. scene.
