SoCal Gas Pipeline Project Along South Bay's 190th Street Begins Today

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — A Southern California Gas Co. pipeline project begins Monday along 190th Street, virtually guaranteeing slow traffic for Torrance, Gardena and northern Redondo Beach motorists for the next three to four months.

Crews will be testing and making enhancements to an underground pipe along 190th Street between Crenshaw Boulevard and Vermont Avenue. To access the line, crews will begin excavating at 8:30 a.m. Monday on 190th at Crenshaw, with the work moving eastward over the next 12 to 15 weeks, according to SoCalGas.

Traffic on 190th Street, a busy 5-lane artery that runs from Redondo Beach all the way to the Harbor (110) Freeway in Torrance, is expected to be slow in the construction area, with occasional lane closures expected. Message boards and traffic-control signs will be posted.

The work will be done between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There won't be any weekend reprieve, as work will continue on Saturday and Sundays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
