Two people dead after small plane crashes at Torrance Airport

Two people died when a small plane crashed in Torrance Wednesday morning.

The single-engine Arion Lightning plane was carrying two people on board when it crashed at the Torrance Municipal Airport's Zamperini Field at about 11:15 a.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot crashed while attempting to land.

Both people on board died during the crash.

Douglas Happ, 81, of Redondo Beach, and Gregg Low, 59, of Torrance both died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner's office reported.

Footage from the scene shows the wreckage in a grassy area next to the runway.

It was unclear what caused the crash.

The crash is being investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
