SigAlert Issued On 210 Freeway After 3 Big Rig Crashes

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Three separate accidents involving five big rigs forced officials to issue a SigAlert for the Foothill (210) Freeway transition road late Wednesday.

The first crash, which involved three big rigs and a Mercedes, occurred around 11:35 p.m. in the eastbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol said.

"The semi truck behind couldn't brake, just ran into me and then I ran into the side of the road," the driver of the Mercedes said.

One of the truck drivers was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

The second collision, between a sedan and a big rig, happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and closed the westbound transition lanes of the 210 Freeway.

The final accident occurred just ten minutes later when another big rig jackknifed and blocked the two transition lanes on an overpass from the eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway to the westbound 210, the CHP said.

Officials say the weather and speed were factors in all three crashes.

The transition road was reopened shortly after 5:30 a.m.
