Statue at Sherman Oaks church vandalized for the third time

A Sherman Oaks church will up its security after someone vandalized their statue multiple times in the past few months.

"I feel sorry for that tormented person or persons that are doing it," Father Michael Wakefield said.

Wakefield serves as the pastor of Saint Francis de Sales. He said this is the third time since August that someone has sprayed black paint across the statue of the saint the church is named after.

While it can be cleaned, Wakefield called it an upsetting act of desecration.

"It really kind of is an assault on not just the parish but on all of the people of the parish," Wakefield said.

The pastor said the church will install new security cameras to focus on the statue.
