2 Children Among 4 Killed in Head-On Palmdale Wreck

PALMDALE (CBSLA) – A family from Hesperia, including a young mother and father and two little girls, possibly twins, were killed in a head-on collision in Palmdale Tuesday morning.

The collision involving a van and a green sedan happened at 10:25 a.m. in the area of N. Sierra Highway and East Avenue M.

"We believe it's a family of four. Mother was in the passenger seat. Father was in the driver seat. Two children were properly seat-belted in a child restraint seatbelt chair," said Det. Rowell Quemuel, Palmdale Sheriff's Department.

But the impact of the head-on collision was too much for anyone to survive inside the car. Investigators can't even identify the model because it was torn in pieces.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to find a man, woman and child dead at the scene. A second child died after being rushed to a hospital, a sheriff's department spokesperson told CBS2.

The collision occurred after the car crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with the van, deputies said.

The male driver of the van is with the Antelope Valley Transit Authority. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the victims and the exact circumstances of the collision were not immediately confirmed.

Investigators say speed might have been a factor with the car but they are still trying to figure out why the green sedan crossed into oncoming traffic in the first place.

Los Angeles County Fire Department crews were also on scene.
