Several Fatal Vehicle Collisions Reported Across SoCal
COMMERCE, LOS ALAMITOS and RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Three motorists, all 19 years old, and a 23-year-old woman were killed in several vehicle crashes across the Southland this weekend.
A fatal motorcycle crash happened around around 1:40 p.m. Saturday on the 5 Freeway in Commerce. A 26-year-old man driving the motorcycle was splitting lanes when the 2013 Yamaha R6 collided with three vehicles, California Highway Patrol reports.
Both the 26-year-old and his 19-year-old passenger were ejected. The passenger, identified as Joseline Celeste Hernandez of Los Angeles, died from a head injury, according to CHP. No word was given on the driver's condition.
A deadly crash in Riverside took place shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle rammed into a tree. It happened at Overlook Parkway west of Golden Star Avenue.
The 19-year-old driver was killed and the passenger, also 19, was transported to a hospital with critical injuries, according to Riverside County fire officials. The victims' identities have not yet been released.
Several hours later, in Los Alamitos, a woman was killed and two two other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash. It happened around 2 a.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway near Katella Avenue, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi says.
A passenger in a Honda, 23-year-old Brenda Coronel, died at the scene. The driver, the victim's sorority sister, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
A man in a BMW was also transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.
