Seven injured in multi-car crash in Baldwin Hills

Multi-car crash leaves seven injured in Baldwin Hills; three arrested after lengthy search

Seven people were injured in a grisly multi-car crash in Baldwin Hills on Monday.

According to Los Angeles Police Department, the crash occurred at around 4:20 p.m. in the 3500 block of Potomac Avenue.

Of the seven injured, none are expected to have suffered life-threatening injuries, Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement.

One of the cars overturned in the crash, coming to rest against a house near the road.

The crash was allegedly caused by a driver who fled from an attempted traffic stop by LAPD officers a few blocks away. They say that minutes after he sped away, they heard a crash and were able to arrive on the scene quickly. They claim they never engaged the suspect in pursuit.

Investigators have determined that the suspect likely ran the stop sign heading northbound on Potomac Ave., which caused a chain reaction crash involving the three other cars, one of which was hurled into a home across the street.

The suspect vehicle had three people inside, two of whom took off on foot, causing police to give chase. All three have been taken into custody, the driver after being hospitalized for injuries suffered in the crash.

According to police, the third suspect was located three hours after the crash, hiding inside of a nearby home that is under construction.

Investigators found guns, jewelry, ski masks and other signs of theft upon searching their vehicle.

Several homes in the area were forced to evacuate as they searched for the suspects who ran on foot.
