Seniors Who'd Rather Not Live In Nursing Homes Create Their Own 'Village'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Seniors who would rather not live in a nursing home have created their own "village" of sorts.

KCAL9's Sylvia Lopez reports that it's actually a volunteer network that gets them the help they need while staying in their own communities and homes.

A Village in the Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Georgetown has nearly 200 members so far, and the movement is growing.

"I don't want to go to what I call the 'going, going, gone place,' Georgetown Village member Page Wilson said. "I want to stay here."

"It's exciting to be part of the Village movement. I get to be part of what's going to be the new face of aging in America," Lynn Golub-Rofrano, the executive director of Georgetown Village, said.

There are several similar Villages in Hollywood, the Westside, Toluca Lake and Burbank.
