Second Harvest Food Bank Of OC Launches New School Pantry Program
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County Friday launched a new School Pantry program.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Patrick Henry Elementary School, 1123 W. Romneya Dr.
School Pantry, offered by Second Harvest with support from Morgan Stanley, is designed to provide hunger relief to some of the estimated 156,000 children in Orange County who are at-risk of missing meals.
Second Harvest will deliver a truckload of more than 5,000 pounds of fresh produce and other nutritious items each month to 10 elementary and junior high schools in the community for distribution to children and their families, as well as others in the neighborhood throughout the 2014-2015 school year.
Officals say more than 277,300 people in Orange County — including more than 86,300 children and 23,700 seniors — need the help of Second Harvest and its community partners to feed themselves and their families.
